This
week in DBS, we saw our heroes Goku and Vegeta training under Whiz. Goku went
to Beerus Planet. I highly enjoy how Dragon Ball has both space and dimensional
travel integrated into is universe. I also like how Beerus, the God of
Destruction, is stronger than Buu. Like in a tournament setting the enemies
become gradually stronger. You don’t get this kind of story in traditional
Western storytelling as the narrative can progress without the need for a
harder challenge.
Although,
this episode was filler it was still highly enjoyable. The story focused on the
comedy: Vegeta and Goku wearing aprons, Goku trying not to wake up Beerus, and
Vegeta acting highly respectful towards Whiz. The best part of the episode was
seeing Vegeta matching Goku’s fighting skills. Vegeta, in the Buu sage
appeared, to be lacking behind Goku. After their decisive battle in episode
230, “The Long awaited fight.” I got the sense that Vegeta was adopting a more
Picolo-like role of staying in the background. Its nice to have his rivalry
with Goku at the forefront this season.
This
episode gave me Super Mario Galaxy and Ocarina of time vibe. For instance, when
Goku and Vegata were running to prevent falling off the bridge. Or the Oracle
fish telling Whiz to be lenient on the training, reminded me of Navi. The Japanese
have thing for animism! Any way, there’s not much to talk about in this
episode, I am excited for next week when we finally kick in with the “Resurrection
of F,” story arc. At the same time, I am seeing how the series is giving more
explanation and adding more characters like Champa and female whiz.
